Dogs walk by with their owners and greet each other
The small timid one watches from a distance
While her companion tries to take on the large foe
The foe doesn’t see himself as such
And is denied his attempt at friendship on this day

I suppose it’s all just in perception

New people meet through their puppy companions
Pausing to enter each others lives for a brief moment over puppy excitement
Idle chit chat that never amounts to anything
Except maybe that one time
When chemistry hits
And a doggy play date is made
Under casual pretense to explore adult things beyond
