The fire crackled by my feet
As the bugs buzzed around my head
The fire sure wasn’t keeping them away tonight
In the distance I heard the loons calling across the water
I saw their silhouettes drifting across the lake
Leaving streams in their wake
The shadows of the trees looming around me
Gave me a type of protection, a forest hug
I knew at that moment, this is where I was meant to be
And to be anywhere else, would be foolish
