Poetry ignites my soul
But the words also shred it and destroy every ounce of my being
Leaving my wounds vulnerable and exposed sour in the air
Rank blood cloying in the stinging light
Coiling against the harsh reality of others thoughts and opinions
Tainting and tearing hating and fearing
Like acid dissolving my heart
The words can heal the pain
If I let myself open to them
If I let them paint across the wounds
And colour the dreams of the future
The healing foundation I need to cleanse my heart of the memories of the past
And be born like a Phoenix to a brand new future
