To prove to myself I could do it
I moved to the other side of the world
Just me and a few belongings
Leaving the memories on another continent
Leaving the weight of them behind was such freedom
Breaking all attachments and ties
To prove to myself I could do it
I went somewhere no one knew my name
And changed it anyway
Embracing an entirely new person
Forgetting who I used to be
Knowing now I was free to make my own rules
Be who I want to be
To prove to myself I could do it
I cut my hair and dyed it
I changed any memories of who I was
And built a brand new me
The new me was accepted easily
And loved, embraced and taken in
On the outside everything was different
But I couldn’t escape the me inside
On the other side of the world, I still looked into my soul in the mirror
Knowing loving myself no matter what
Was the best way I could prove to myself I could do it
