What is your most treasured memory? Is there someone you miss? What are you grateful for having experienced? What new memories do you want to create?

“Years from now I hope we are still in each others lives”

Memories, of a time that used to be
A time of honouring special occasions and having parties
Balloons, presents, cakes, decorations and more
Crepe paper crinkling and sweet icing dripping, rubber popping and paper ripping
Traditions and familiar experiences
Gathering together with family and friends
Sharing love and laughter, support and smiles
Making events extra special
Making memories, of a time that used to be

Old VHS tapes, film camera photos
Recording the moments to capture them for always
Chunky reminders on out of date tape players
Waiting to get the snippets of time developed
To see if any turned out okay
Red eye, closed eyes, heads cut off
Added character to the photos
Cassette tapes of Boney M
Blaring from the boom box
While ornaments, now considered vintage
Are hung on the pine tree
Technology that may be non existent
But just below the surface
Lie the memories, of a time that used to be

Dutch goodies assembled, waiting for guests
Sneaking snacks with hopes of not getting caught
The special glow of candles
And out of tune songs
Fighting over the corner piece with all the icingBefore blood sugar counts even matteredPlayful pool parties with ice cream sundaes
Burgers and bonfires
Gingerbread house decorating
Surprises wrapped carefully in coloured paper
Fresh cookies wrapped in tin foil
For each person’s delight
Yummy memories, of a time that used to be

Each moment was magic and filled with joy
Each memory was made without realizing
Assuming it would be like this forever
That the gatherings would never end
Taking for granted, taken away
Broken heart bandaids over the burns left behind
Scar tissue sorries don’t surrender the stories
The past isn’t the present unless you bring it along
Clinging onto the memories while the songs fade away
No longer sung here, they weren’t meant to stay
Assuming it would be like this forever
That the gatherings would never end
Memories, of a time that used to be
And now are no more
